How’s The Weather? 2023–2024
A Collaboration with David Greer
David Greer and I have been good friends since 2010, but have never lived in the same city since working together in Hong Kong. We’ve helped each other weather relationships, family deaths, bad jobs and countless fly-by reunions over the years, staying close through pictures, politics and a similar sense of careening out of control when the world seems spectacularly unfair and disjointed. We also share a similar comfort and turmoil in making things grow.
During times of quiet or tension between us, communication boils down to a shared picture, often of our respective gardens. Where words and control of a situation have failed us, finding ourselves humbled or triumphant in our respective gardens has brought us back to our senses, and often our friendship. Back to a small peace that cannot otherwise be found in news headlines or in the chaos of our daily lives.
This collaborative work is a shared reverie between David’s garden in Vallejo, CA and mine in Somerville, MA during the growing season of 2023. This work was originally produced in a small-run, handmade book.
